SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTIONMemorializing prominent native Nevadan,

George J. Vucanovich.

1-1 Whereas, The members of this legislative body note with sadness the

1-2 passing of George J. Vucanovich on December 19, 1998; and

1-3 Whereas, George J. Vucanovich was born April 29, 1927, in Tonopah,

1-4 Nevada, grew up in Round Mountain and graduated from Tonopah High

1-5 School in 1944; and

1-6 Whereas, George Vucanovich attended the University of Nevada

1-7 where he was a member of the basketball and football teams and graduated

1-8 in 1950 with a degree in business administration; and

1-9 Whereas, When George Vucanovich married Barbara Dillon in 1965,

1-10 he took on the responsibility of helping raise her five children and was a

1-11 "wonderful father" according to his stepdaughter, Patty Cafferata; and

2-1 Whereas, The business career of George Vucanovich included work as

2-2 an accountant and comptroller for several businesses, including Bally

2-3 Distributing of Nevada Inc. where he also served as Vice President from

2-4 1980 to 1984; and

2-5 Whereas, George Vucanovich played an active role in the community,

2-6 including his membership on the board of directors of the Nevada State

2-7 Fair from 1978 to 1981, the YMCA from 1978 to 1981 and the Reno

2-8 Chamber of Commerce from 1980 to 1983; and

2-9 Whereas, George Vucanovich was on the founders board of the

2-10 Truckee Meadows Boys and Girls Club, was active in the Reno Air Racing

2-11 Association from 1968 to 1992 and was involved in numerous other

2-12 community service organizations; and

2-13 Whereas, George Vucanovich also volunteered his time as a search

2-14 pilot with the Northern Nevada aero squadron and the Reno Composite

2-15 Squadron Civil Air Patrol which presented him with its Red Baron Award

2-16 in 1983; and

2-17 Whereas, George Vucanovich is survived by his wife, Barbara, a sister,

2-18 Violet Heath of Roseville, California, a brother, John Susich of Carson

2-19 City, a son, Craig Vucanovich of Reno, stepdaughters, Patricia Dillon

2-20 Cafferata and Susan Dillon Anderson of Reno and Daryn Potter of Sparks,

2-21 stepsons, Kenneth Dillon of Reno and Thomas Dillon of Cincinnati, Ohio,

2-22 and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; now, therefore, be

2-23 it

2-24 Resolved by the Senate of the State of Nevada, the Assembly

2-25 Concurring, That the members of the 70th session of the Nevada

2-26 Legislature express their heartfelt sympathy and sincere condolences to the

2-27 family of George J. Vucanovich; and be it further

2-28 Resolved, That George Vucanovich will long be remembered for the

2-29 many ways he so generously gave his time and energy to make life safer

2-30 and more enjoyable for the residents of this state; and be it further

2-31 Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate prepare and transmit a copy

2-32 of this resolution to his wife, Barbara, his son, Craig, and his stepchildren,

2-33 Patty, Susan, Daryn, Kenneth and Thomas.
