The Committee on Constitutional Amendments met at the Bar of the Assembly on Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at the hour of 2:00 p.m.

The meeting was called for the purpose of voting on two resolutions.

 

Assembly Joint Resolution 9:  Urges Congress to repeal provision of federal law requiring state to record social security number of citizen on application for driver’s license for state to receive certain federal funding. (BDR R‑1290)

 

Assemblywoman McClain stated she opposed the resolution, would speak against it on the floor and vote nay on its passage.

 

ASSEMBLYMAN GUSTAVSON MOVED TO DO PASS A.J.R. 9.

 

ASSEMBLYMAN MORTENSON SECONDED THE MOTION.

 

THE MOTION CARRIED.  ASSEMBLYMAN OCEGUERA AND ASSEMBLYWOMAN MCCLAIN VOTED AGAINST THE RESOLUTION.

 

Assembly Joint Resolution 14:  Proposes to amend Nevada Constitution to remove requirement that Legislature fix compensation of elected county officers. (BDR C-1526)

 

An amendment to the resolution added the words “appointment or” in line 7:  “The Legislature shall provide for their appointment or election….”

 

ASSEMBLYWOMAN MCCLAIN MOVED TO AMEND AND DO PASS A.J.R. 14.

 

ASSEMBLYMAN OCEGUERA SECONDED.

 

THE MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.

 

The meeting adjourned at 2:15 p.m.
