AN ACT relating to peace officers; requiring an agency of a local government to reimburse an agency of this state for the cost of training certain peace officers under certain circumstances; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1    Section 1.  Chapter 289 of NRS is hereby amended by adding thereto a

1-2  new section to read as follows:

1-3    If an agency of a local government in this state hires a person who:

1-4    1.  Completed training and was certified as a category I, category II

1-5  or category III peace officer within the 2 years immediately preceding the

1-6  date the agency of the local government hires that person;

1-7    2.  Received the training described in subsection 1 at the expense of

1-8  an agency of this state; and

1-9    3.  Fills a position of employment with the agency of the local

1-10  government for which the person must be certified as a category I,

1-11  category II or category III peace officer,

1-12  the agency of the local government shall reimburse the agency of this

1-13  state for the cost of the training of the person for certification as a

1-14  category I, category II or category III peace officer, as applicable.

1-15    Sec. 2.  NRS 289.450 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-16    289.450  As used in NRS 289.450 to 289.600, inclusive, and section 1

1-17  of this act, unless the context otherwise requires, the words and terms

1-18  defined in NRS 289.460 to 289.490, inclusive, have the meanings ascribed

1-19  to them in those sections.
