AN ACT relating to historic preservation; authorizing certain fund raising to benefit historic places or programs pursuant to which a donor of money is, under certain circumstances, allowed to name a historic place or portion thereof; revising the qualifications for membership on the Comstock historic district commission; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
1-1 Section 1. Chapter 383 of NRS is hereby amended by adding thereto a
1-2 new section to read as follows:
1-3 1. A nonprofit organization that has as its primary purpose the
1-4 raising of money to benefit historic places in this state that are listed in
1-5 the state register of historic places or the national register of historic
1-6 places, or programs conducted pursuant thereto, may, with the approval
1-7 of the administrator, engage in a program to raise money to benefit such
1-8 a historic place or program pursuant to which a donor of money is
1-9 allowed to name such a historic place, or any portion thereof, that
1-10 receives any part of its funding from or through this state.
1-11 2. The administrator shall not approve a program pursuant to which
1-12 a donor is allowed to rename a historic place or any portion thereof.
1-13 3. The administrator may adopt such regulations as he determines
1-14 are necessary to carry out the provisions of this section.
1-15 Sec. 2. NRS 384.050 is hereby amended to read as follows:
1-16 384.050 1. The governor shall appoint to the commission:
1-17 (a) One member who is a county commissioner of Storey County.
1-18 (b) One member who is a county commissioner of Lyon County.
2-1 (c) One member who is the administrator or an employee of the office
2-2 of historic preservation of the department of cultural affairs.
2-3 (d) Two members who are persons licensed as general engineering
2-4 contractors or general building contractors pursuant to chapter 624 of
2-5 NRS or persons who hold a certificate of registration to practice
2-6 architecture [in this state.] pursuant to chapter 623 of NRS.
2-7 (e) Four members who are persons interested in the protection and
2-8 preservation of structures, sites and areas of historic interest and are
2-9 residents of the district.
2-10 2. The commission shall elect one of its members as chairman and
2-11 another as vice chairman, who shall serve for a term of 1 year or until their
2-12 successors are elected and qualified.
2-13 3. Each member of the commission is entitled to receive a salary of not
2-14 more than $80, as fixed by the commission, for each day’s attendance at a
2-15 meeting of the commission.
2-16 4. While engaged in the business of the commission, each member and
2-17 employee of the commission is entitled to receive the per diem allowance
2-18 and travel expenses provided for state officers and employees generally.
