AN ACT making an appropriation to the Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Abuse of the Department of Human Resources for support of community-based substance abuse prevention programs; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1    Section 1.  1.  There is hereby appropriated from the state general

1-2  fund to the Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Abuse of the Department of

1-3  Human Resources to increase the available financial support for

1-4  community-based substance abuse prevention programs:

1-5  For the fiscal year 2001-2002 $450,000

1-6  For the fiscal year 2002-2003 $450,000

1-7    2.  In each fiscal year, the money appropriated pursuant to subsection 1

1-8  must be used:

1-9    (a) To provide grants for substance abuse prevention programs that

1-10  provide services directly to targeted communities based on needs

1-11  assessments in the amount of $250,000;

1-12    (b) To support the facilitation of new and existing coalitions that

1-13  develop better organized substance abuse prevention programs, bring

1-14  resources together and increase the effectiveness of services provided in

1-15  the amount of $150,000; and

1-16    (c) To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the grants made and

1-17  coalitions supported in the amount of $50,000.


2-1    Sec. 2.  Any balance of the sums appropriated by section 1 of this act

2-2  remaining at the end of the respective fiscal years must not be committed

2-3  for expenditure after June 30 of the respective fiscal years and reverts to

2-4  the state general fund as soon as all payments of money committed have

2-5  been made.

2-6    Sec. 3.  This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.

 

2-7  H
