AN ACT relating to county hospitals; increasing the compensation of members of certain boards of hospital trustees for rural county hospitals; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1    Section 1.  NRS 450.130 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2    450.130  1.  Except in counties where the board of county

1-3  commissioners is the board of hospital trustees, in any county whose

1-4  population is less than 100,000 [, a] :

1-5    (a) A hospital trustee is entitled to receive a salary as follows:

1-6    [(a)] (1) The chairman and secretary of the board of hospital trustees

1-7  are entitled to receive [$60] $85 for each [board meeting which] meeting of

1-8  the board or a committee appointed by the board that they attend, not to

1-9  exceed [$120] $510 per month.

1-10    [(b)] (2) The other trustees are entitled to receive [$55] $80 for each

1-11  [board] meeting of the board or a committee appointed by the board that

1-12  they attend, not to exceed [$110] $480 per month.

1-13    (b) In addition to the salary required by paragraph (a), the board of

1-14  hospital trustees may provide to each member of the board the same

1-15  health insurance coverage as the board provides to its employees.

1-16    2.  Except in counties where the board of county commissioners is the

1-17  board of hospital trustees, in any county whose population is 100,000 or

1-18  more, a hospital trustee, subject to the provisions of subsection 3, is


2-1  entitled to receive a salary of $100 per month and the chairman of the

2-2  board of hospital trustees is entitled to receive a salary of $200 per month.

2-3    3.  Before any hospital trustee is entitled to any compensation as

2-4  provided in subsection 2, he must first have devoted a minimum of 1 day

2-5  during the month exclusively to the business and affairs of the hospital,

2-6  exclusive of regular meetings of the board of hospital trustees.

2-7    4.  Any trustee of any county hospital is entitled to receive

2-8  reimbursement for any cash expenditures actually made for personal

2-9  expenses incurred as a trustee. An itemized statement of all those expenses

2-10  and money paid out must be made under oath by each of the trustees and

2-11  filed with the secretary. An itemized statement may be allowed only by an

2-12  affirmative vote of all trustees present at a meeting of the board.

2-13    5.  In counties where the county commissioners are the board of

2-14  hospital trustees, they shall serve without compensation, but are allowed

2-15  the per diem allowance and traveling expenses fixed by law.

2-16    Sec. 2.  The provisions of subsection 1 of NRS 354.599 do not apply

2-17  to any additional expenses of a local government that are related to the

2-18  provisions of this act.

2-19    Sec. 3.  This act becomes effective on July 1, 2001.
