AN ACT relating to education; making appropriations to the Clark County School District for the expansion of programs to provide distance education and for the related conversion to digital television; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1    Section 1. 1.  There is hereby appropriated from the state general

1-2  fund to the Clark County School District:

1-3  For the fiscal year 2001-2002.............. $500,000

1-4  For the fiscal year 2002-2003.............. $500,000

1-5    2.  The money appropriated by subsection 1 must be used for the

1-6  production and distribution of programming and media on a statewide basis

1-7  to provide distance education for:

1-8    (a) Pupils who demonstrate a high-risk of dropping out of school; and

1-9    (b) Employees of school districts and employees of this state in areas of

1-10  training devoted to improving their professional performance.

1-11    3.  Any balance of the sums appropriated by subsection 1 remaining at

1-12  the end of the respective fiscal years must not be committed for

1-13  expenditure after June 30 of the respective fiscal years and reverts to the

1-14  state general fund as soon as all payments of money committed have been

1-15  made.

 


2-1    Sec. 2.  1.  There is hereby appropriated from the state general fund

2-2  to the Clark County School District:

2-3  For the fiscal year 2001-2002.............. $500,000

2-4  For the fiscal year 2002-2003.............. $500,000

2-5    2.  The money appropriated by subsection 1 must be used for expenses

2-6  relating to the existing project by the KLVX Communications Group to

2-7  convert the public broadcasting station KLVX to digital television.

2-8    3.  Any balance of the sums appropriated by subsection 1 remaining at

2-9  the end of the respective fiscal years must not be committed for

2-10  expenditure after June 30 of the respective fiscal years and reverts to the

2-11  state general fund as soon as all payments of money committed have been

2-12  made.

2-13    Sec. 3.  This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
