AN ACT relating to insurance; authorizing certain insurers to offer policies of insurance that cover employees for both work-related and nonwork-related illnesses and injuries; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1    Section 1. Chapter 690B is hereby amended by adding thereto a new

1-2  section to read as follows:

1-3    1.  A casualty insurer who is also authorized pursuant to chapter

1-4  680A of NRS to transact health insurance may offer a product of

1-5  insurance to employers that, under a single policy, covers the injuries

1-6  and illnesses of employees, regardless of whether those injuries and

1-7  illnesses are work-related or arise under circumstances traditionally

1-8  addressed by health insurance.

1-9    2.  A product of insurance described in subsection 1, must allow

1-10  employees covered by the product to:

1-11    (a) Choose their providers of health care freely and not be restricted to

1-12  choosing those providers of health care from an approved list; or

1-13    (b) Be served by a single network of providers of health care that is

1-14  the same regardless of whether the employee’s illness or injury is work-

1-15  related or arises under circumstances traditionally addressed by health

1-16  insurance.

1-17    3.  The provisions of this section do not abrogate or decrease the

1-18  effect of any of the provisions of chapters 616A to 616D, inclusive, or

1-19  chapter 617 of NRS.
