AN ACT making an appropriation to the State Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for costs relating to the preservation of Walker Lake; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1    Section 1. There is hereby appropriated from the state general fund to

1-2  the State Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Office of the

1-3  Director:

1-4  For fiscal year 2001-2002................... $275,000

1-5  For fiscal year 2002-2003................... $375,000

1-6    Sec. 2.   The money appropriated by section 1 of this act must be used

1-7  for the planning and implementation of projects to:

1-8    1.  Restore and stabilize the channel of the Walker River between the

1-9  Wabuska Gage and Walker Lake;

1-10  2.  Control or eradicate Tamarisk stands along the Walker River near

1-11  Walker Lake; and

1-12  3.  Expand cloud seeding activities within the Walker River Basin,

1-13  to increase the inflow of water to Walker Lake.

1-14  Sec. 3.  The sums appropriated by section 1 of this act are available for

1-15  either fiscal year. Any balance of those sums must not be committed for

1-16  expenditure after June 30, 2005, and reverts to the state general fund as

1-17  soon as all payments of money committed have been made.

1-18  Sec. 4.  This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
