AN ACT relating to motor vehicles; prohibiting in certain circumstances a person from operating a sound amplification system in a motor vehicle in a certain manner; providing a penalty; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
1-1 Section 1. Chapter 484 of NRS is hereby amended by adding thereto a
1-2 new section to read as follows:
1-3 1. Except as otherwise provided in subsection 2, the driver of a motor
1-4 vehicle shall not operate or allow the operation of a sound amplification
1-5 system in the motor vehicle in such a manner that the sound emanating
1-6 from the sound amplification system is audible from a distance of more
1-7 than 25 feet from the motor vehicle when the motor vehicle is being
1-8 operated upon a highway.
1-9 2. The provisions of this section do not apply to:
1-10 (a) A sound amplification system that is being operated to request
1-11 assistance or warn of a hazardous situation.
1-12 (b) An emergency vehicle or other vehicle that is authorized to be
1-13 equipped with an audible warning signal.
2-1 (c) A vehicle that is authorized by a permit issued by the proper public
2-2 authority to operate a sound amplification system in a parade or other
2-3 authorized procession.
2-4 (d) A vehicle that is used as part of a licensed business which operates
2-5 a sound amplification system to advertise the business.
2-6 3. As used in this section, “sound amplification system” means a
2-7 radio, compact disc player, cassette player or similar device.
2-8 Sec. 2. The amendatory provisions of this act do not apply to offenses
2-9 committed before July 1, 2001.
2-10 Sec. 3. This act becomes effective on July 1, 2001.
