AN ACT making an appropriation to Clark County for the support of the Greater Las Vegas Inner-City Games; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.
Whereas, The Inner-City Games began in Los Angeles in 1991 in response to the growing problems facing inner-city youth, with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the founder and Chairman; and
Whereas, In 1996, Las Vegas joined 11 other cities nationwide by founding the Greater Las Vegas Inner-City Games; and
Whereas, The Greater Las Vegas Inner-City Games has been supported solely by private sponsorships of cash or in-kind contributions; and
Whereas, More than 10,000 Southern Nevada inner-city youth have been positively affected each year through a program of sports, educational and cultural activities, all of which are free of charge to all participants, including costs for transportation; now, therefore,
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
1-1 Section 1. There is hereby appropriated from the state general fund to
1-2 Clark County the sum of $250,000 for distribution to the nonprofit
1-3 organization Greater Las Vegas Inner-City Games for the continuation of
1-4 sports, educational and cultural activities in the Greater Las Vegas area.
1-5 Sec. 2. Any remaining balance of the appropriation made by section 1
1-6 of this act must not be committed for expenditure after June 30, 2003, and
1-7 reverts to the state general fund as soon as all payments of money
1-8 committed have been made.
2-1 Sec. 3. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
