AN ACT relating to health care; creating the Nevada health account for uninsured families in the state general fund; providing that the account be used to promote the availability of health care benefits for uninsured families in this state and to assist families in this state to access essential health care services; making an appropriation; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1    Section 1. Chapter 353 of NRS is hereby amended by adding thereto a

1-2  new section to read as follows:

1-3    1.  There is hereby created the Nevada health account for uninsured

1-4  families in the state general fund.

1-5    2.  The money in the account must be used solely to promote the

1-6  availability of health care benefits for uninsured families in this state and

1-7  to assist families in this state to access essential health care services.

1-8    3.  The account must be administered by the director of the

1-9  department of human resources, who may:

1-10    (a) Apply for and accept any gift, donation, bequest, grant or other

1-11  source of money for deposit in the account; and

1-12    (b) Expend any money received pursuant to paragraph (a) in

1-13  accordance with subsection 2.

1-14    4.  The interest and income earned on the money in the account, after

1-15  deducting any applicable charges, must be credited to the account.

1-16    5.  The money in the account must remain in the account and does

1-17  not revert to the state general fund at the end of any fiscal year.

 


2-1    Sec. 2.  There is hereby appropriated from the state general fund to the

2-2  Nevada health account for uninsured families created pursuant to section 1

2-3  of this act the sum of $5,000,000 to promote the availability of health care

2-4  benefits for uninsured families in this state and to assist families in this

2-5  state to access essential health care services.

2-6    Sec. 3.  This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
