AN ACT relating to education; revising provisions pertaining to the contents of policies adopted by certain larger school districts concerning the reconstruction, renovation or replacement of older buildings; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
1-1 Section 1. NRS 393.103 is hereby amended to read as follows:
1-2 393.103 A school district that has more than 150,000 pupils enrolled
1-3 shall develop and adopt a policy concerning the renovation or
1-4 reconstruction of older buildings for schools or related facilities. As part of
1-5 the policy, consideration must be given to the relative advantages and
1-6 disadvantages of the renovation or reconstruction of older buildings for
1-7 schools or related facilities as compared to the design, construction or
1-8 purchase of new buildings for schools or related facilities.The policy must
1-9 include, without limitation, guidelines for use by the board of trustees in
1-10 determining [whether] :
1-11 1. Whether older buildings should be renovated or reconstructed or
1-12 whether new buildings to replace those older buildings should be
1-13 constructed or purchased.
1-14 2. The manner in which the board of trustees will expend or disburse
1-15 money that the board did not otherwise anticipate would be available to
1-16 finance the renovation or reconstruction of older buildings and the
1-17 construction or purchase of new buildings, if such money, in fact,
1-18 becomes available.
1-19 Sec. 2. This act becomes effective on July 1, 2001.
