AN ACT relating to Oriental medicine; revising the provisions relating to the issuance of a license to practice as a doctor of Oriental medicine; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1    Section 1. NRS 634A.140 is hereby amended to read as follows:

1-2     634A.140  The board shall issue a license to practice as a doctor of

1-3  Oriental medicine to an applicant who:

1-4    1.  Has:

1-5    (a) Successfully completed an accredited 4-year program of study, or its

1-6  equivalent, in Oriental medicine at a school or college of Oriental

1-7  medicine that is approved by the board; [and]

1-8    (b) Earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or

1-9  university in the United States;

1-10    (c) Passed an investigation of his background and personal history

1-11  conducted by the board; and

1-12    (d) Passed the examinations required by NRS 634A.120; or

1-13    2.  Has:

1-14    (a) Successfully completed a 4-year program[,] of study, or its

1-15  equivalent, in Oriental medicine at a school or college of Oriental medicine

1-16  that is approved by the board;

1-17    (b) Lawfully practiced Oriental medicine in another state or foreign

1-18  country for at least 4 years;


2-1    (c) Passed an investigation of his background and personal history

2-2  conducted by the board; and

2-3    (d) Passed the examinations required by NRS 634A.120.

2-4    Sec. 2.  Section 16 of Assembly Bill No. 302 of this session is hereby

2-5  amended to read as follows:

2-6     Sec. 16.  Notwithstanding the provisions of NRS 634A.140, the

2-7  state board of Oriental medicine shall issue a license to practice as a

2-8  doctor of Oriental medicine to any person who, on [the effective date

2-9  of this act,] October 1, 2001, holds a license as an assistant in

2-10  acupuncture or a license to practice as a doctor of acupuncture issued

2-11  by the board if he submits an application and the fee for the issuance

2-12  of the license to the board before January 1, 2002.

2-13    Sec. 3. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
