Assembly Concurrent RESOLUTION—Urging certain governmental agencies to post agendas of their public meetings on the Internet.

 

1-1    Whereas, The State of Nevada has entered the new millennium, and

1-2  new technology is available to improve the way governmental business is

1-3  conducted; and

1-4    Whereas, The Internet provides a faster, more economical and more

1-5  effective way for public officials and agencies to communicate and transact

1-6  business with the growing number of Nevadans who are “on line”; and

1-7    Whereas, The State of Nevada and its political subdivisions must take

1-8  the lead in making use of this new interactive technology to allow

1-9  government to be more efficient, economical, open and responsive to the

1-10  residents of this state; and

1-11    Whereas, The posting of agendas of public meetings is an integral step

1-12  in notifying the public of proposed governmental action; now, therefore, be

1-13  it

1-14    Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the Senate

1-15  Concurring, That the members of the Nevada Legislature strongly

1-16  encourage the use by governmental entities of the Internet to post all

1-17  meeting agendas for entities that are subject to the provisions of the Open

1-18  Meeting Law pursuant to chapter 241 of the Nevada Revised Statutes,

1-19  including, without limitation, the State of Nevada, its political subdivisions

1-20  and the University and Community College System of Nevada; and be it

1-21  further

1-22    Resolved, That the Department of Information Technology in

1-23  consultation with the Nevada Association of Counties, the Nevada League

1-24  of Cities and Municipalities, the Nevada Association of School Boards and

1-25  the Board of Regents of the University of Nevada, is hereby requested to

1-26  prepare a written report not later than December 1, 2002, summarizing the

1-27  methods being used in Nevada to achieve the goal to post on the Internet

1-28  agendas for all public meetings, identifying any legislation that is


2-1  necessary to resolve any apparent obstacles to full implementation of the

2-2  goal and estimating the date upon which the goal will be fully

2-3  implemented; and be it further

2-4    Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit

2-5  a copy of this resolution to the Department of Administration for

2-6  transmittal to all state agencies, to the Nevada Association of Counties for

2-7  transmittal to all county agencies, to the Nevada League of Cities and

2-8  Municipalities for transmittal to all city and town agencies, to the Nevada

2-9  Association of School Boards for transmittal to all school boards in this

2-10  state, and to the Board of Regents of the University of Nevada.
