Assembly Concurrent RESOLUTION—Expressing support for projects for economic development at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center.

1-1    Whereas, Many rural counties in Nevada currently suffer from a

1-2  decline in existing tax revenue, resulting in poorly maintained roads,

1-3  antiquated water systems, and underfunded schools and police and fire

1-4  departments; and

1-5    Whereas, The horizon, nevertheless, looks bright for two Nevada

1-6  counties because a new project promises many benefits and opportunities;

1-7  and

1-8    Whereas, The Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center is a large industrial and

1-9  business development under construction in Storey and Lyon counties; and

1-10    Whereas, The Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center will generate millions of

1-11  dollars in new tax revenue per year for Storey County and the State of

1-12  Nevada, and will employ thousands of workers thereby benefiting the

1-13  overall economy of the state; and

1-14    Whereas, The developers of the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center have

1-15  invested a substantial amount of money to develop the infrastructure

1-16  required for the construction and operation of the center; and

1-17    Whereas,The power generation plant under construction at the Tahoe-

1-18  Reno Industrial Center will provide a new resource for power in this state

1-19  and help to avoid shortages of power in Northern Nevada; and

1-20    Whereas, The Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center is working with The

1-21  Nature Conservancy to develop a 400-acre, 5-mile-long nature preserve on

1-22  the McCarran Ranch property which currently provides habitat for many

1-23  species of wildlife and over 125 species of birds, thereby enabling The

1-24  Nature Conservancy to restore the area to its full ecological potential; and

1-25    Whereas, The developers of the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center are

1-26  working with the Department of Transportation to develop the Interstate

2-1  Highway No. 80 Interchange and State Route No. 567 that will connect

2-2  Interstate Highway No. 80 and U.S. Highway 50 and will donate the right

2-3  of way for the construction of State Route No. 567; and

2-4    Whereas, The construction of the Interstate Highway No. 80

2-5  Interchange and State Route No. 567 will help to ensure that the economic

2-6  benefits resulting from the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center in Storey County

2-7  will inure as well to the economic benefit of Carson City and Lyon County;

2-8  now, therefore, be it

2-9    Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, The Senate

2-10  Concurring, That the Nevada Legislature commends Storey County and

2-11  the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center for their leadership in helping to

2-12  diversify the economy of this state and create a substantial number of jobs

2-13  in Northern Nevada; and be it further

2-24  the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center; and be it further
