Assembly Concurrent RESOLUTION—Expressing support for projects for economic development at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center.
1-1 Whereas, Many rural counties in Nevada currently suffer from a
1-2 decline in existing tax revenue, resulting in poorly maintained roads,
1-3 antiquated water systems, and underfunded schools and police and fire
1-4 departments; and
1-5 Whereas, The horizon, nevertheless, looks bright for two Nevada
1-6 counties because a new project promises many benefits and opportunities;
1-7 and
1-8 Whereas, The Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center is a large industrial and
1-9 business development under construction in Storey and Lyon counties; and
1-10 Whereas, The Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center will generate millions of
1-11 dollars in new tax revenue per year for Storey County and the State of
1-12 Nevada, and will employ thousands of workers thereby benefiting the
1-13 overall economy of the state; and
1-14 Whereas, The developers of the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center have
1-15 invested a substantial amount of money to develop the infrastructure
1-16 required for the construction and operation of the center; and
1-17 Whereas,The power generation plant under construction at the Tahoe-
1-18 Reno Industrial Center will provide a new resource for power in this state
1-19 and help to avoid shortages of power in Northern Nevada; and
1-20 Whereas, The Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center is working with The
1-21 Nature Conservancy to develop a 400-acre, 5-mile-long nature preserve on
1-22 the McCarran Ranch property which currently provides habitat for many
1-23 species of wildlife and over 125 species of birds, thereby enabling The
1-24 Nature Conservancy to restore the area to its full ecological potential; and
1-25 Whereas, The developers of the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center are
1-26 working with the Department of Transportation to develop the Interstate
2-1 Highway No. 80 Interchange and State Route No. 567 that will connect
2-2 Interstate Highway No. 80 and U.S. Highway 50 and will donate the right
2-3 of way for the construction of State Route No. 567; and
2-4 Whereas, The construction of the Interstate Highway No. 80
2-5 Interchange and State Route No. 567 will help to ensure that the economic
2-6 benefits resulting from the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center in Storey County
2-7 will inure as well to the economic benefit of Carson City and Lyon County;
2-8 now, therefore, be it
2-9 Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, The Senate
2-10 Concurring, That the Nevada Legislature commends Storey County and
2-11 the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center for their leadership in helping to
2-12 diversify the economy of this state and create a substantial number of jobs
2-13 in Northern Nevada; and be it further
2-14 Resolved, That the Nevada Legislature supports the efforts of Storey
2-15 County and the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center to develop additional
2-16 capacity for the generation of energy in Northern Nevada; and be it further
2-17 Resolved, That the Nevada Legislature commends the developers of
2-18 the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center for their vision and commitment to the
2-19 economic development of this state; and be it further
2-20 Resolved, That the Nevada Legislature commends the efforts of the
2-21 Board of County Commissioners of Storey County, the Commission on
2-22 Economic Development and the Economic Development Authority of
2-23 Western Nevada for their support of projects for economic development at
2-24 the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center; and be it further
2-25 Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit
2-26 a copy of this resolution to Governor Kenny Guinn, Lieutenant Governor
2-27 Lorraine Hunt, each member of the Commission on Economic
2-28 Development and each member of the Board of County Commissioners of
2-29 Storey County.
