Assembly Joint RESOLUTION—Proposing to amend the Constitution of the State of Nevada to revise provisions governing the right to vote.

 

1-1    Resolved by the Assembly and Senate of the State of Nevada,

1-2  Jointly, That section 1 of article 2 of the Constitution of the State of

1-3  Nevada be amended to read as follows:

1-4    Section 1. All citizens of the United States (not laboring under the

1-5  disabilities named in this constitution) of the age of eighteen years and

1-6  upwards, who shall have actually, and not constructively, resided in the

1-7  state six months, and in the district or county thirty days next preceding

1-8  any election, shall be entitled to vote for all officers that now or hereafter

1-9  may be elected by the people, and upon all questions submitted to the

1-10  electors at such election; provided, that no person who has been or may be

1-11  convicted of treason or felony in any state or territory of the United States,

1-12  unless restored to civil rights, and no [idiot or insane] person who has been

1-13  adjudicated mentally incompetent, unless restored to legal capacity, shall

1-14  be entitled to the privilege of an elector. There shall be no denial of the

1-15  elective franchise at any election on account of sex. The legislature may

1-16  provide by law the conditions under which a citizen of the United States

1-17  who does not have the status of an elector in another state and who does

1-18  not meet the residence requirements of this section may vote in this state

1-19  for President and Vice President of the United States.
