Assembly Joint RESOLUTION—Urging the Nevada Congressional Delegation to support the release of property in Clark County controlled by the Bureau of Land Management for the development of a regional shooting sports park.
1-1 Whereas, There is a growing need in Clark County for a safe, world-
1-2 class shooting facility to be used by residents and visitors to educate
1-3 recreational and competitive shooters and law enforcement personnel in the
1-4 proper use of a wide variety of firearms, and to accommodate practice,
1-5 recreational and competitive activities and events; and
1-6 Whereas, There is an increased risk of injury or death because
1-7 expanded commercial and residential development in the Las Vegas
1-8 Valley, coupled with regulatory action making the discharge of firearms
1-9 illegal in the developed areas of the valley, has forced sports shooters away
1-10 from traditional shooting areas and into uncontrolled areas, where
1-11 unsuspecting persons are hit by errant and unexpected shots; and
1-12 Whereas, The development of the Clark County Wetlands Park has
1-13 created a situation that will require the relocation of an existing archery
1-14 range; and
2-1 Whereas, The shooting range owned and operated by the North Las
2-2 Vegas Police Department and the shooting range owned and operated by
2-3 the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department will also need to be
2-4 relocated in the very near future; and
2-5 Whereas, The potential closing of several public shooting clubs and
2-6 the increased number of housing developments near long-standing shooting
2-7 areas, raise increased public safety and environmental concerns; and
2-8 Whereas, The increase in popularity of the various shooting sports and
2-9 the growth in the population of the region is creating an even greater
2-10 demand for a large, publicly operated and affordable shooting facility; and
2-11 Whereas, The Clark County Department of Parks and Recreation is
2-12 pursuing the development of a shooting facility that could be the host site
2-13 for local, regional, national and international competitive events which
2-14 would draw visitors to the area; and
2-15 Whereas, Sports shooters, local law enforcement agencies, and various
2-16 state, local and federal agencies support the development of a shooting
2-17 range park in Clark County that would benefit local residents and visitors
2-18 to Clark County; now, therefore, be it
2-19 Resolved by the Assembly and Senate of the State of Nevada,
2-20 Jointly, That the Nevada Legislature hereby urges the Nevada
2-21 Congressional Delegation to support the release of 5,000 acres of property
2-22 in Clark County controlled by the Bureau of Land Management for the
2-23 development of a regional shooting sports park; and be it further
2-24 Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly prepare and transmit
2-25 a copy of this resolution to each member of the Nevada Congressional
2-26 Delegation; and be it further
2-27 Resolved, That this resolution becomes effective upon passage.
