     Amend section 1, page 1, line 3, by deleting “department, in” and inserting “department”.

     Amend section 1, page 1, by deleting lines 4 and 5 and inserting:

“shall design, prepare and issue license plates for the appreciation”.

     Amend section 1, page 1, line 6, by deleting:

“of the rights”.

     Amend section 1, page 1, line 11, by deleting:

“support of the rights” and inserting “appreciation”.

     Amend section 1, page 2, by deleting lines 16 through 19 and inserting:

“The state treasurer shall, on a quarterly basis, distribute to each county the fees collected for the preceding quarter for license plates for vehicles registered in that county. The money may be used by the county only for animal shelters or programs for the adoption of animals that are approved by the county commission.”.

     Amend sec. 2, page 3, line 9, by deleting “vehicle privilege” and inserting “governmental services”.

     Amend sec. 5, page 4, by deleting line 11 and inserting:

     “Sec. 5. 1.  This section and sections 1, 3 and 4 of this act become effective on July 1, 2001.

     2.  Section 2 of this act becomes effective at 12:01 a.m. on July 1, 2001.”.

     Amend sec. 5, page 4, line 12, by deleting “2.” and inserting “3.”.

     Amend the title of the bill by deleting the second and third lines and inserting:

“appreciation of animals; imposing a fee for the issuance”.

     Amend the summary of the bill to read as follows:

“SUMMARY—Provides for issuance of special license plates for appreciation of animals. (BDR 43‑693)”.
