AN ACT relating to cities; authorizing a change in the boundaries of certain cities to become effective in certain circumstances within a specified period before certain elections; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
1-1 Section 1. NRS 268.666 is hereby amended to read as follows:
1-2 268.666 [No]
1-3 1. Except as otherwise provided in this subsection, a change in the
1-4 boundaries of [any city shall] a city, including, without limitation, a
1-5 change in the boundaries of a city resulting from an annexation, must
1-6 not become effective within the 90 days [next immediately preceding any
1-7 general] immediately preceding an election at which officers are chosen
1-8 for the city or issues are determined for [such city. Any annexation which
1-9 would otherwise be effective within such period shall be effective on the
1-10 day following such election.] the city. If the area that is being added to or
1-11 removed from the boundaries of a city consists entirely of vacant land,
1-12 the change in the boundaries of the city may become effective within the
1-13 90 days immediately preceding such an election.
1-14 2. As used in this section, “vacant land” means land that:
1-15 (a) Has not been developed for any purpose; and
1-16 (b) Is not used as a residence by any person.
1-17 Sec. 2. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
