AN ACT relating to forestry; creating the position of seed bank coordinator within the division of forestry of the state department of conservation and natural resources; making an appropriation to the division for that purpose; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1    Section 1. Chapter 528 of NRS is hereby amended by adding thereto a

1-2  new section to read as follows:

1-3    1.  The position of seed bank coordinator is hereby created within the

1-4  division.

1-5    2.  The state forester firewarden shall appoint the seed bank

1-6  coordinator. The person so appointed is in the unclassified service of the

1-7  state.

1-8    3.  The seed bank coordinator shall:

1-9    (a) Identify seeds that are suitable for planting in any area of this

1-10  state that has been damaged by fire;

1-11    (b) Coordinate the collection or acquisition of seeds identified

1-12  pursuant to paragraph (a);

1-13    (c) Coordinate with any federal, state or local governmental agency to

1-14  facilitate the reseeding of any area of this state that has been damaged by

1-15  fire;

1-16    (d) Oversee the obtaining of any permits that are required to collect or

1-17  acquire seeds identified pursuant to paragraph (a); and


2-1    (e) Perform any other duty assigned to him by the state forester

2-2  firewarden.

2-3    Sec. 2.  1.  There is hereby appropriated from the state general fund

2-4  to the division of forestry of the state department of conservation and

2-5  natural resources for the salary and operating expenses of the seed bank

2-6  coordinator appointed pursuant to section 1 of this act:

2-7       For the fiscal year 2001-2002................ $76,482

2-8       For the fiscal year 2002-2003................ $55,848

2-9    2.  Any balance of the sums appropriated by subsection 1 remaining at

2-10  the end of the respective fiscal years must not be committed for

2-11  expenditure after June 30 of the respective fiscal years and reverts to the

2-12  state general fund as soon as all payments of money committed have been

2-13  made.

2-14    Sec. 3.  This act becomes effective on July 1, 2001.
