AN ACT relating to the legislature; revising the provisions governing the compensation of certain legislative employees; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
1-1 Section 1. NRS 218.230 is hereby amended to read as follows:
1-2 218.230 1. Except as otherwise provided in this section, there must
1-3 be paid to the employees of the senate and assembly, for all services
1-4 rendered by them under the provisions of this chapter, the following [sums]

3-26 2. In addition to the positions listed in subsection 1, the secretary of
3-27 the senate and the chief clerk of the assembly may establish additional
3-28 positions as necessary and shall establish an appropriate base amount
3-29 for those additional positions.
3-30 3. The base amount paid to an employee of the legislature listed in
3-31 subsection 1 or created pursuant to subsection 2:
3-32 (a) Must be increased cumulatively by each cost of living increase
3-33 granted to employees in the classified service of the state that becomes
3-34 effective on or after July 1, 2001; and
3-35 (b) May be increased cumulatively by the secretary of the senate or the
3-36 chief clerk of the assembly, as applicable, by one step of 5 percent for
3-37 each regular legislative session during which the employee previously
3-38 worked for the legislature in the same or a similar position, not to exceed
3-39 nine steps per position, if the secretary of the senate or the chief clerk of
3-40 the assembly determined that the employee performed his duties in a
3-41 satisfactory manner during the previous session or sessions.
3-42 4. During periods of adjournment to a day certain, employees of the
3-43 legislature whose service is required shall perform duties as assigned and
3-44 are entitled to be paid the base amount specified in subsection 1 for each
3-45 day of service[.
3-46 3.] , as adjusted pursuant to subsection 3, if applicable.
3-47 5. During periods before the commencement of a session and after the
3-48 adjournment of a session sine die, employees of the legislature whose
4-1 service is required shall perform duties as assigned and are entitled to be
4-2 paid at an hourly rate commensurate with the daily rate specified in
4-3 subsection 1 [.] , as applicable, and are entitled to be compensated for
4-4 overtime in the same manner as provided for employees of the legislative
4-5 counsel bureau.
