Senate Concurrent RESOLUTION—Commending Stanley Fuke for his years of service to public schools and public school libraries in Clark County.

 

1-1     Whereas, Because the role of school libraries has changed

1-2  dramatically since they first became part of schools in the late 19th century

1-3  and especially since the introduction of technology after World War II, it

1-4  takes someone like Stanley Fuke to face the constant challenge and make

1-5  the commitment necessary to meet the growing needs of school libraries in

1-6  the 21st century; and

1-7     Whereas, Stanley Fuke has been in the field of education for nearly

1-8  four decades as a teacher, school librarian and library administrator and has

1-9  been employed by the Clark County School District since 1976; and

1-10     Whereas, Stanley Fuke graduated from the University of Northern

1-11  Iowa in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and

1-12  furthered his education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, from

1-13  which he received a degree as a Master of Education in Curriculum and

1-14  Instruction in 1985; and


2-1     Whereas, An enthusiastic and vocal advocate for public school

2-2  libraries and librarians, Stanley Fuke untiringly seeks extra funds to

2-3  supplement the collections in school libraries and is a leader in the

2-4  promotion of technology for the administration of the libraries and for the

2-5  information resources they contain; and

2-6     Whereas, Stanley Fuke is an active member of professional library

2-7  associations at the local, state and national levels and works continually to

2-8  keep abreast of what is new in the field of library services; and

2-9     Whereas, Over the years, Stanley Fuke has developed an excellent

2-10  working relationship with the public library system and has worked to

2-11  rejuvenate the library science program at the University of Nevada, Las

2-12  Vegas, to ensure that school libraries in Nevada will have well-trained

2-13  librarians to meet the needs of the school districts; and

2-14     Whereas, Publications authored or co-authored by Stanley Fuke

2-15  include the Nevada School Library Standards, the Nevada School Network

2-16  Governance and User Applications and the K-5 Library Curriculum Guide;

2-17  and

2-18     Whereas, In 1997, Stanley Fuke was inducted into the Clark County

2-19  School District’s Excellence in Education Hall of Fame, an honor that

2-20  recognizes persons who have made extraordinary and lasting contributions

2-21  to education in the community; and

2-22     Whereas, Other acknowledgments of the efforts of Stanley Fuke

2-23  include the 1995 James McPhee Memorial Intellectual Freedom Award

2-24  presented by the Clark County School Librarians Association in

2-25  recognition of dedication to the cause of preserving freedom of expression

2-26  and inquiry, and the 1993 Ambassador of Courtesy Award from the Las

2-27  Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and the Las Vegas Chamber of

2-28  Commerce for excellent customer service; now, therefore, be it

2-29     Resolved by the Senate of the State of Nevada, the Assembly

2-30  Concurring, That the members of the 71st session of the Nevada

2-31  Legislature hereby commend Stanley Fuke for his exceptional

2-32  contributions to the Clark County School District; and be it further

2-33     Resolved, That the child-centered approach of Stanley Fuke in

2-34  working to meet the literacy needs of all students is laudable and serves to

2-35  inspire the residents of the State of Nevada to work with our schools and

2-36  school libraries in every way possible to make them examples of

2-37  excellence in the world of education; and be it further

2-38     Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate prepare and transmit a copy

2-39  of this resolution to Stanley Fuke, Administrative Specialist for Library

2-40  Services in the Clark County School District.
