Senate CONCURRENT RESOLUTION—Memorializing Dennis Kollar, former Deputy Director for the Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission.
1-1 Whereas, The members of this legislative body note with great sadness
1-2 the passing of dedicated law enforcement officer Dennis Kollar on
1-3 April 19, 2001; and
1-4 Whereas, Dennis Michael Kollar was born in New Jersey and moved
1-5 with his family at 3 years of age to San Diego, California, where he lived
1-6 most of his life; and
1-7 Whereas, After graduating from high school, Dennis joined the United
1-8 States Army and served in the Vietnam War; and
1-9 Whereas, In 1969, Dennis joined the San Diego County Sheriff’s
1-10 Department and, known for his work ethic, quickly rose through the ranks,
1-11 leaving a legacy of service that included jail and patrol duty, the training of
1-12 other officers, internal affairs and the Narcotics Task Force; and
1-13 Whereas, Among his many distinctions, Dennis was the founding
1-14 Director of the Sheriff’s Academy at Southwestern College in
2-1 Chula Vista, California, which trained law enforcement officers at that
2-2 campus from 1984 to 1994; and
2-3 Whereas, Dennis retired from the San Diego County Sheriff’s
2-4 Department as a captain after 25 years of dedicated service; and
2-5 Whereas, Opening a new administrative chapter in his law
2-6 enforcement career, Dennis moved to Nevada and spent the last 7 years in
2-7 Reno as Deputy Director for the Peace Officers’ Standards and Training
2-8 Commission for this state; and
2-9 Whereas, Dennis was known for his wonderful sense of humor that
2-10 brought a smile to the face of anyone who needed it; and
2-11 Whereas, Dennis was an avid sports fan and a devoted father to his
2-12 three daughters, Renee, Colleen and Megan; and
2-13 Whereas, Dennis is survived by his daughters, his mother Catherine,
2-14 his sister and brother-in-law Mary Beth and Scott Ring, and their children,
2-15 Michael, Clinton, Emily, Nolan and Rebecca; now, therefore, be it
2-16 Resolved by the Senate of the State of Nevada, the Assembly
2-17 Concurring, That the members of the Nevada Legislature express their
2-18 heartfelt condolences to the family of Dennis Kollar; and be it further
2-19 Resolved, That Dennis Kollar will be remembered for his devotion to
2-20 his family and his dedicated public service as a law enforcement officer;
2-21 and be it further
2-22 Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate prepare and transmit a copy
2-23 of this resolution to Dennis’s daughters, Renee, Colleen and Megan.
