Senate Concurrent RESOLUTION—Commending Shelba Gamble for her service as Administrative Assistant to the President of the University of Nevada, Reno.

 

1-1    Whereas, Shelba Jean Gallaher Gamble was born on January 31, 1938,

1-2  in Lockesburg, Arkansas, the youngest of the four children of Robbie and

1-3  Thelma Gallaher; and

1-4    Whereas, Shelba excelled as an athlete and a scholar during her school

1-5  years by achieving the status of all-county basketball player in junior high

1-6  school and by attaining the rank of salutatorian of the 1956 graduating

1-7  class of Lockesburg High School; and

1-8    Whereas, Shelba Gamble attended Texarkana College, where in

1-9  addition to her scholastic endeavors, she performed as a member of the

1-10  Starlet Dance Troupe; and

1-11    Whereas, Shelba Gamble served as an able member of the staff of the

1-12  Political Science Department at the University of Arkansas from 1967 to

1-13  1969 and also served in several different staff capacities for the State of

1-14  Arkansas from 1969 to 1976; and


2-1    Whereas, Shelba Gamble was actively involved in the campaigns of

2-2  Winthrop Rockefeller and Ted Boswell for Governor of Arkansas and Dale

2-3  Bumpers for United States Senator from that state; and

2-4    Whereas, Shelba Gamble came to Nevada in 1976, as a single mother

2-5  of a young child, to serve in the administration of President Max Milam at

2-6  the University of Nevada, Reno; and

2-7    Whereas, Continuing to serve the University in the key position of

2-8  Administrative Assistant to Presidents Joseph Crowley and Stephen

2-9  McFarlane, Shelba concluded this assignment in June 2001, after 25 years

2-10  of distinguished service; and

2-11    Whereas, During her quarter century at the University of Nevada,

2-12  Reno, Shelba Gamble carried out the complex responsibility of managing

2-13  the President’s office and staff, served as a member of the President’s

2-14  Cabinet, fulfilled a role as a key adviser to three presidents, and continually

2-15  exhibited patience, a caring attitude and a willingness to listen while

2-16  interacting with the many visitors who came daily to the President’s office;

2-17  and

2-18    Whereas, Shelba Gamble has touched the lives of thousands of

2-19  students, faculty, staff and others during her career at the University, is

2-20  admired and respected for her distinguished performance of a difficult and

2-21  challenging job, and will be fondly remembered for her service by a legion

2-22  of friends; and

2-23    Whereas, After raising her daughter, Sean, who is a graduate of the

2-24  University of Nevada, Reno, Shelba is now the proud grandmother of Bryn

2-25  and wishes to spend more time with her loving family; now, therefore, be it

2-26    Resolved by the Senate of the State of Nevada, the Assembly

2-27  Concurring, That the members of the Nevada Legislature pay special

2-28  tribute to Shelba Jean Gamble on the occasion of her departure from the

2-29  position of Administrative Assistant to the President of the University of

2-30  Nevada, Reno, a position that she so capably filled; and be it further

2-31    Resolved, That the Nevada Legislature wishes Shelba Jean Gamble a

2-32  happy and productive retirement, and much well-deserved quality time

2-33  with her loving family; and be it further

2-34    Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate prepare and transmit a copy

2-35  of this resolution to Shelba Jean Gamble and to the University of Nevada,

2-36  Reno.
