Senate Joint RESOLUTION—Proposing to amend section 6 of article 6 of the Constitution of the State of Nevada to authorize the legislature to establish a business court as a division of a district court and to prescribe its jurisdiction.
1-1 Resolved by the Senate and Assembly of the State of Nevada,
1-2 Jointly, That section 6 of article 6 of the Constitution of the State of
1-3 Nevada be amended to read as follows:
1-4 Sec. 6. 1. The District Courts in the several Judicial Districts of this
1-5 State have original jurisdiction in all cases excluded by law from the
1-6 original jurisdiction of justices’ courts. They also have final appellate
1-7 jurisdiction in cases arising in Justices Courts and such other inferior
1-8 tribunals as may be established by law. The District Courts and the Judges
1-9 thereof have power to issue writs of Mandamus, Prohibition, Injunction,
1-10 Quo-Warranto, Certiorari, and all other writs proper and necessary to the
1-11 complete exercise of their jurisdiction. The District Courts and the Judges
1-12 thereof shall also have power to issue writs of Habeas Corpus on petition
1-13 by, or on behalf of any person who is held in actual custody in their
1-14 respective districts, or who has suffered a criminal conviction in their
1-15 respective districts and has not completed the sentence imposed pursuant to
1-16 the judgment of conviction.
1-17 2. The legislature may provide by law for:
1-18 (a) Referees in district courts.
1-19 (b) The establishment of a family court as a division of any district
1-20 court and may prescribe its jurisdiction.
2-1 (c) The establishment of a business court as a division of any district
2-2 court and may prescribe its jurisdiction.
2-3 H
