AN ACT making an appropriation to the Division of State Library and Archives of the Department of Cultural Affairs for distribution to the Nevada Public Radio Corporation for support of its statewide Radio Reading Service for blind and print-impaired persons; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.
Whereas, The Nevada Public Radio Corporation is a Nevada nonprofit public benefit corporation that provides the Radio Reading Service; and
Whereas, The Radio Reading Service is a closed circuit communication system which provides timely local information to blind and other print-impaired Nevadans in the Las Vegas area, as well as Reno, Carson City, Elko, Ely and Tonopah; and
Whereas, The Nevada Public Radio Corporation is the sole operator of such a system in the State of Nevada; now, therefore,
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
1-1 Section 1. There is hereby appropriated from the State General
1-2 Fund to the Division of State Library and Archives of the
2-1 Department of Cultural Affairs the sum of $50,000 for distribution
2-2 to the Nevada Public Radio Corporation, a Nevada nonprofit public
2-3 benefit corporation, for support of its statewide Radio Reading
2-4 Service for blind and print-impaired persons.
2-5 Sec. 2. The Nevada Public Radio Corporation may use the
2-6 money appropriated by section 1 of this act only for satellite fees,
2-7 insurance, repair and purchase of receivers, site rental fees,
2-8 engineering fees and other legitimate expenses directly related to the
2-9 provision and expansion of its Radio Reading Service. The Nevada
2-10 Public Radio Corporation shall provide a report of the expenditure
2-11 of the money appropriated by section 1 of this act to the State
2-12 Library and Archives Administrator on or before June 30, 2005.
2-13 Sec. 3. Any remaining balance of the appropriation made by
2-14 section 1 of this act must not be committed for expenditure after
2-15 June 30, 2005, and reverts to the State General Fund as soon as all
2-16 payments of money committed have been made.
2-17 Sec. 4. This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
