SENATE Joint RESOLUTION—Declaring the support of the Nevada Legislature for America’s missile defense system.
1-1 Whereas, The people of the State of Nevada view with
1-2 growing concern the proliferation of nuclear, chemical and
1-3 biological weapons of mass destruction and the missile delivery
1-4 capabilities of these weapons in the hands of unstable foreign
1-5 regimes; and
1-6 Whereas, The people of this state wish to affirm their support
1-7 of the United States Government in taking all actions necessary to
1-8 protect the residents of America and future generations from attacks
1-9 by missiles capable of causing mass destruction and loss of
1-10 American lives; now, therefore, be it
1-11 Resolved by the Senate and Assembly of the State of
1-12 Nevada, Jointly, That the members of the Nevada Legislature:
1-13 1. Support the President of the United States in directing the
1-14 considerable scientific and technological capabilities of this nation
1-15 and in taking all actions necessary to protect the states and their
1-16 residents, our allies and our Armed Forces abroad from the threat of
1-17 missile attack;
1-18 2. Convey to the President and the Congress of the United
1-19 States that a coast-to-coast, effective missile defense system will
1-20 require the deployment of a robust, multilayered architecture
1-21 consisting of integrated land-, sea- and space-based capabilities to
2-1 deter evolving future threats from missiles as weapons of mass
2-2 destruction and to meet and destroy them when necessary; and
2-3 3. Appeal to the President and the Congress of the United
2-4 States to plan and fund a missile defense system beyond 2005 that
2-5 would consolidate technological advancement and expansion from
2-6 current limited applications; and be it further
2-7 Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate prepare and
2-8 transmit a copy of this resolution to the President of the United
2-9 States, the Vice President of the United States as the presiding
2-10 officer of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives
2-11 and to each member of the Nevada Congressional Delegation; and
2-12 be it further
2-13 Resolved, That this resolution becomes effective upon
2-14 passage.
