The Committee on Constitutional Amendmentswas called to order at 1:24 p.m., on Tuesday, May 13, 2003, behind the Bar of the Assembly by Chairman Harry Mortenson.

Assembly Joint Resolution 7:  Proposes to amend Nevada Constitution to provide for limited annual legislative sessions. (BDR C-43)

 

ASSEMBLYMAN McCLEARY MOVED TO RESCIND THE ACTION TAKEN ON MAY 9, 2003.

 

ASSEMBLYMAN HORNE SECONDED THE MOTION.

 

THE MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.


Chairman Mortenson recognized Assemblywoman Chris Giunchigliani, Clark County Assembly District No. 9, to make remarks on A.J.R. 7.

 

Assemblywoman Giunchigliani, the sponsor of this measure, asked the Committee to consider amending the resolution to include the amendment she previously proposed at the hearing and work sessions.  However, she asked that the amendment be revised to restore the existing constitutional language limiting legislator compensation to 60 days for a regular session in an odd‑numbered year and no more than 20 days for a special session.

 

ASSEMBLYMAN McCLEARY MOVED TO AMEND AND DO PASS.

 

ASSEMBLYMAN HORNE SECONDED THE MOTION.

 

THE MOTION CARRIED WITH ASSEMBLYMAN GUSTAVSON VOTING NO.

 

The meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
