The Committee on Ways and Meanswas called to order by Chairman Morse Arberry Jr. at 5:40 p.m., on Sunday, June 1, 2003, behind the Bar of the Assembly.

Vice Chairwoman Giunchigliani explained that she was seeking approval from the Committee to draft a bill for a Committee introduction.  This bill would use fees imposed on rental cars to finance a professional sports stadium, a performing arts center, and a facility to provide vocational training in culinary skills.  She added that the bill would also authorize the issuance of revenue bonds for some of those projects.

 

Note:  For the purpose of these minutes, the bill summary is as follows:          

 

“Assembly Bill 554:  Authorizes imposition of fee on certain rental cars in certain larger counties to finance professional sports stadium, performing arts center and facility for providing vocational training in culinary skills. (BDR 20-1376)”

 

Ms. Giunchigliani noted the proposed bill would complement Senator William Raggio’s bill, S. B. 497 that provided for rental car fees to be used for a baseball stadium located in Reno.  She had spoken to Senator Raggio, who had indicated there would not be a conflict between the two bills.

 

ASSEMBLYMAN PARKS MOVED TO APPROVE THE DRAFTING OF A BILL AS SUGGESTED BY VICE CHAIRWOMAN GIUNCHIGLIANI.

 

ASSEMBLYWOMAN CHOWNING SECONDED THE MOTION.

 

THE MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.

 

As there was no further business before the Committee, Chairman Arberry adjourned the meeting at 5:44 p.m.
