AN ACT relating to education; establishing the Center for the Analysis of Crime Statistics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; providing that the Center may apply for grants and accepts gifts and donations, and may use such gifts, grants and donations to carry out its duties and functions; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1  Section 1. Chapter 396 of NRS is hereby amended by adding

1-2  thereto a new section to read as follows:

1-3  The Center for the Analysis of Crime Statistics is hereby

1-4  established within the Department of Criminal Justice at the

1-5  University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The Center may:

1-6  1.  Apply for any available grants and accept any gifts, grants

1-7  or donations; and


2-1  2.  Use any such gifts, grants or donations to aid the Center in

2-2  carrying out its duties and functions.

2-3  Sec. 2.  NRS 396.020 is hereby amended to read as follows:

2-4  396.020  The legal and corporate name of the State University

2-5  is the University of Nevada. The System of:

2-6  1.  Universities;

2-7  2.  Community colleges;

2-8  3.  Administrative services;

2-9  4.  Research facilities, including [the] , without limitation:

2-10      (a) The Desert Research Institute [and the] ;

2-11      (b) The Ethics Institute; and

2-12      (c) The Center for the Analysis of Crime Statistics, established

2-13  within the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of

2-14  Nevada, Las Vegas; and

2-15      5.  Departments within the Public Service Division,

2-16  administered under the direction of the Board of Regents is hereby

2-17  collectively known as the University and Community College

2-18  System of Nevada. The System is comprised of such branches and

2-19  facilities as the Board of Regents deems appropriate.

2-20      Sec. 3.  This act becomes effective upon passage and approval.
