AN ACT relating to public schools; requiring the Clark County School District to continue its pilot program for the replacement of certain schools; authorizing the Clark County School District to use a certain amount of money from its Fund for Capital Projects to finance the replacement of schools designated for its pilot program; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1  Section 1. 1.  The Board of Trustees of the Clark County

1-2  School District shall continue the pilot program to replace schools

1-3  initially established pursuant to section 3 of chapter 562, Statutes of

1-4  Nevada 1999, at page 2947.

1-5  2.  Notwithstanding the provisions of NRS 387.328 to the

1-6  contrary, the Board of Trustees of the Clark County School District

1-7  may use an amount not to exceed $135,000,000 from the Fund for

1-8  Capital Projects created pursuant to NRS 387.328 to reconstruct at

1-9  least five existing schools within the School District. The Board of

1-10  Trustees shall select the schools designated for reconstruction in


2-1  accordance with the policy adopted pursuant to NRS 393.103

2-2  concerning the renovation or reconstruction of older buildings for

2-3  schools or related facilities and any priorities for reconstruction set

2-4  forth in that policy. The Board of Trustees, upon designating the

2-5  schools to be reconstructed, shall with all deliberate speed

2-6  commence the reconstruction of the designated schools with a

2-7  planned completion date of August 1, 2006.

2-8  3.  On or before January 10, 2005, the Board of Trustees of the

2-9  Clark County School District shall submit to the Director of the

2-10  Legislative Counsel Bureau for transmission to the 73rd Session of

2-11  the Nevada Legislature an interim report regarding the pilot program

2-12  to replace schools. The report must include, without limitation, the

2-13  progress of reconstruction of the designated schools.

2-14      Sec. 2.  This act becomes effective on July 1, 2003.
