AN ACT relating to vital statistics; increasing the amount of money that certain persons or governmental organizations must remit to the State Registrar for issuing a certified or official copy of a certificate of birth; requiring those persons or governmental organizations to remit a certain amount to the State Registrar for issuing a certified or official certificate of death; increasing the fees the State Registrar must charge and collect for a certified copy of a record of birth or death; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
1-1 Section 1. NRS 440.175 is hereby amended to read as follows:
1-2 440.175 1. Upon request, the State Registrar may furnish
1-3 statistical data to any federal, state, local or other public or private
1-4 agency, upon such terms or conditions as may be prescribed by the
1-5 Board.
1-6 2. No person may prepare or issue any document which
1-7 purports to be an original, certified copy, certified abstract or
1-8 official copy of:
1-9 (a) A certificate of birth, death or fetal death, except as
1-10 authorized in this chapter or by the Board.
1-11 (b) A certificate of marriage, except a county recorder or a
1-12 person so required pursuant to NRS 122.120.
2-1 (c) A decree of divorce or annulment of marriage, except a
2-2 county clerk or the judge of a court of record.
2-3 3. A person or governmental organization which issues
2-4 certified or official copies pursuant to paragraph (a) of subsection 2
2-5 shall remit to the State Registrar:
2-6 (a) For each registration of a birth or death in its district, $2.
2-7 (b) For each copy issued of a certificate of birth in its district,
2-8 [$5.] $7.
2-9 (c) For each copy issued of a certificate of death in its district,
2-10 $1.
2-11 Sec. 2. NRS 440.700 is hereby amended to read as follows:
2-12 440.700 1. The State Registrar shall charge and collect the
2-13 following fees:
2-14 For searching the files for one name, if no copy is
2-15 made....................................................... $8
2-16 For verifying a vital record..................... 8
2-17 For establishing and filing a record of paternity (other
2-18 than a hospital-based paternity), and providing a
2-19 certified copy of the new record........... 20
2-20 For a certified copy of a record of birth[11] 13
2-21 For a certified copy of a record of death[9] 10
2-22 For correcting a record on file with the State
2-23 Registrar and providing a certified copy of the
2-24 corrected record..................................... 20
2-25 For replacing a record on file with the State Registrar

2-39 2. The fee collected for furnishing a copy of a certificate of
2-40 birth or death includes the sum of $3 for credit to the Children’s
2-41 Trust Account.
3-1 3. The fee collected for furnishing a copy of a certificate of
3-2 death includes the sum of $1 for credit to the Review of Death of
3-3 Children Account.
3-4 4. Upon the request of any parent or guardian, the State
3-5 Registrar shall supply, without the payment of a fee, a certificate
3-6 limited to a statement as to the date of birth of any child as disclosed
3-7 by the record of such birth when the certificate is necessary for
3-8 admission to school or for securing employment.
3-9 5. The United States Bureau of the Census may obtain, without
3-10 expense to the State, transcripts or certified copies of births and
3-11 deaths without payment of a fee.
