Assembly Concurrent RESOLUTION—Designating
April 30, 2003, as “Vintage Car Day” at the Nevada Legislature.

 

1-1  Whereas, Automobiles and the automobile industry have

1-2  played a vital role in the growth of this great country; and

1-3  Whereas, Automobile sales in the United States have grown

1-4  over the years from $4,100 in 1900 to $3.7 million in 1925, $6.7

1-5  million in 1950, $9.3 million in 1965 to over $140 billion worth of

1-6  motor vehicles and parts produced in the United States by

1-7  companies employing over 6.6 million workers nationwide; and


2-1  Whereas, The automobile industry has become one of the

2-2  largest purchasers of many key American industrial products, such

2-3  as steel; and

2-4  Whereas, Since 1987, the automobile industry has grown by

2-5  more than 47 percent, helping to drive the economy of the United

2-6  States to new heights; and

2-7  Whereas, Automobiles have shaped our everyday lives over

2-8  the past 100 years more than any other invention by allowing

2-9  consumers to commute long distances for family visits, tourism,

2-10  entertainment, shopping and work; and

2-11      Whereas, Automobiles have encouraged the development of a

2-12  far-reaching system of highways and roads, which made possible

2-13  the growth of suburbs and shopping centers around major cities; and

2-14      Whereas, Many people all over the nation, including a large

2-15  number in Nevada, maintain their classic automobiles as a pastime

2-16  and do so with a great passion; and

2-17      Whereas, The members of the Nevada Legislature recognize

2-18  the effect the automobile has had on our country and support

2-19  wholeheartedly all activities involved in the restoration and

2-20  exhibition of these fine automobiles; and

2-21      Whereas, Thousands of local clubs have been instrumental in

2-22  preserving a historic part of this country’s heritage by encouraging

2-23  the restoration and exhibition of these vintage works of art which

2-24  easily evoke smiles and fond memories; now, therefore, be it

2-25      Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the

2-26  Senate Concurring, That the members of the 72nd Session of

2-27  the Nevada Legislature hereby designate April 30, 2003, as

2-28  “Vintage Car Day” at the Nevada Legislature in recognition of all

2-29  that automobiles and the automobile industry have done to shape

2-30  this country and state; and be it further

2-31      Resolved, That the members of the Legislature express

2-32  appreciation to the Valley Cruisers Car Club for organizing a

2-33  nostalgic display on the legislative grounds in commemoration of

2-34  this event.
