Assembly Concurrent RESOLUTION—Memorializing the victims of the events of September 11, 2001.
1-1 Whereas, On September 11, 2001, terror struck the heart of
1-2 America, but that terror found no resting place in the hearts of
1-3 Americans who, in the moments and days following the first
1-4 realization that our country had been attacked, countered with
1-5 courage and an outpouring of love and compassion that evidence the
1-6 best of our great Nation; and
1-7 Whereas, We will not forget the shocking events of that
1-8 Tuesday morning in September 2001, and we will not forget the
1-9 stories of heroism and determination that unfolded in New York
1-10 City, at the Pentagon and in the skies over Pennsylvania as ordinary
2-1 people faced the most frightening circumstances one could possibly
2-2 imagine and met the challenge by risking their own lives in heroic
2-3 attempts to help others; and
2-4 Whereas, By their examples, we have learned from these
2-5 heroes how to respond to evil with good, and to respond to terror
2-6 with love, and in remembering their selflessness, we are given the
2-7 strength to continue to reach out to the people we meet each day
2-8 with kindness and respect; and
2-9 Whereas, We, as Americans, have been blessed with
2-10 democracy and freedom, and endowed with the gift to do good, and
2-11 the responsibility to do no less; and
2-12 Whereas, From the Civil War to the Great Depression to
2-13 World War II, American life has always been about facing
2-14 challenges and rising up together to set a shining example of a
2-15 society based on equality, freedom and tolerance; and
2-16 Whereas, As we struggle with the loss of so many lives, 2,801
2-17 at the destruction of the World Trade Center Towers, 184 at the
2-18 attack on the Pentagon, and the 40 passengers and crew members of
2-19 United Airlines Flight 93, each with a face and a name, and families
2-20 and friends who loved them, we also recognize our own mortality
2-21 and take the opportunities presented each day to express our love
2-22 and appreciation for those around us, and make the most of the days
2-23 remaining for each of us; now, therefore, be it
2-24 Resolved by the Assembly of the State of Nevada, the
2-25 Senate Concurring, That united in our national mourning, we
2-26 will remember every family that lives in grief and we pray that their
2-27 sorrow is fading even as the thoughts of their loved ones remain as
2-28 cherished and comforting memories; and be it further
2-29 Resolved, That the thousands of innocent victims whose lives
2-30 were brought to a tragic and horrifying end by evil too terrible for
2-31 most to comprehend, will be honored by our common and unending
2-32 pursuit of freedom and peace in the world, and by our continued
2-33 dedication to public service and respect for all humanity.
