AN ACT relating to insurance; requiring certain policies of health insurance and health care plans to provide for colorectal cancer screening under certain circumstances; and providing other matters properly relating thereto.

 

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN

SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

 

1-1  Section 1. Chapter 689A of NRS is hereby amended by

1-2  adding thereto a new section to read as follows:

1-3  A policy of health insurance that provides coverage for the

1-4  treatment of colorectal cancer must provide for colorectal cancer

1-5  screening in accordance with:

1-6  1. The guidelines concerning colorectal cancer screening

1-7  which are published by the American Cancer Society; or

1-8  2.  Other guidelines or reports concerning colorectal cancer

1-9  screening which are published by nationally recognized

1-10  professional organizations and which include current or

1-11  prevailing supporting scientific data.

 

2-1  Sec. 2.  Chapter 689B of NRS is hereby amended by adding

2-2  thereto a new section to read as follows:

2-3  A policy of group health insurance that provides coverage for

2-4  the treatment of colorectal cancer must provide for colorectal

2-5  cancer screening in accordance with:

2-6  1. The guidelines concerning colorectal cancer screening

2-7  which are published by the American Cancer Society; or

2-8  2.  Other guidelines or reports concerning colorectal cancer

2-9  screening which are published by nationally recognized

2-10  professional organizations and which include current or

2-11  prevailing supporting scientific data.

2-12      Sec. 3.  Chapter 695C of NRS is hereby amended by adding

2-13  thereto a new section to read as follows:

2-14      A health care plan issued by a health maintenance

2-15  organization that provides coverage for the treatment of colorectal

2-16  cancer must provide for colorectal cancer screening in accordance

2-17  with:

2-18      1. The guidelines concerning colorectal cancer screening

2-19  which are published by the American Cancer Society; or

2-20      2.  Other guidelines or reports concerning colorectal cancer

2-21  screening which are published by nationally recognized

2-22  professional organizations and which include current or

2-23  prevailing supporting scientific data.

2-24      Sec. 4.  Chapter 695G of NRS is hereby amended by adding

2-25  thereto a new section to read as follows:

2-26      A health care plan issued by a managed care organization that

2-27  provides coverage for the treatment of colorectal cancer must

2-28  provide for colorectal cancer screening in accordance with:

2-29      1. The guidelines concerning colorectal cancer screening

2-30  which are published by the American Cancer Society; or

2-31      2.  Other guidelines or reports concerning colorectal cancer

2-32  screening which are published by nationally recognized

2-33  professional organizations and which include current or

2-34  prevailing supporting scientific data.

2-35      Sec. 5.  Chapter 287 of NRS is hereby amended by adding

2-36  thereto a new section to read as follows:

2-37      The governing body of any county, school district, municipal

2-38  corporation, political subdivision, public corporation or other

2-39  public agency of the State of Nevada that provides health

2-40  insurance through a plan of self-insurance shall provide coverage

2-41  for colorectal cancer screening in accordance with:

2-42      1. The guidelines concerning colorectal cancer screening

2-43  which are published by the American Cancer Society; or

2-44      2.  Other guidelines or reports concerning colorectal cancer

2-45  screening which are published by nationally recognized

3-1  professional organizations and which include current or

3-2  prevailing supporting scientific data.
