Senate Concurrent RESOLUTION—Memorializing dedi-cated firefighter and longtime Yerington resident Marvin Carr.

 

1-1  Whereas, The members of the Nevada State Legislature mourn

1-2  the loss of Marvin Carr who passed away on September 17, 2002;

1-3  and

1-4  Whereas, Marvin Carr was born in Salida, Colorado, to

1-5  Chester and Irene McCollum Carr; and

1-6  Whereas, Marvin Carr graduated from Smith Valley High

1-7  School and served in the United States Army National Guard for 9

1-8  years; and

1-9  Whereas, Nancy Wines and Marvin Carr were married in

1-10  Smith Valley on July 17, 1955; and


2-1  Whereas, A Yerington resident for 41 years, Marvin Carr was

2-2  a dedicated firefighter who served the residents of the State of

2-3  Nevada in various capacities during his career in fire service

2-4  spanning over 40 years; and

2-5  Whereas, After beginning as a volunteer firefighter for Lyon

2-6  County in 1955, Marvin Carr chose fire fighting as his profession,

2-7  serving much of his career with the Mason Valley Fire Protection

2-8  District and the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District; and

2-9  Whereas, Marvin Carr was appointed Lyon County Fire

2-10  Marshal in 1971, where his responsibilities included blueprint

2-11  checks for public buildings, fire investigation, and inspections for

2-12  conformance with fire and uniform building codes; and

2-13      Whereas, In 1986 Marvin Carr was appointed Fire Chief for

2-14  the newly formed Central Lyon County Fire Protection District; and

2-15      Whereas, Marvin Carr was named as the Director of Lyon

2-16  County’s Emergency Management Division in 1991 and as the

2-17  Executive Director of the State Emergency Response Commission

2-18  in 1996; and

2-19      Whereas, In 1998 Marvin Carr was appointed as the State Fire

2-20  Marshal, the head of the State Fire Marshal Division of the

2-21  Department of Public Safety for the State of Nevada; and

2-22      Whereas, Marvin Carr also served as past president and was a

2-23  life member of the Nevada State Firefighters Association, a member

2-24  of the Nevada Fire Chiefs Association and the Nevada Emergency

2-25  Preparedness Association and, in 1997, was selected to the

2-26  International “Who’s Who” of Professionals Representing the Fire

2-27  Service; and

2-28      Whereas, Marvin Carr is survived by his wife Nancy, sons

2-29  Gene and Steven, brother Bill Young, mother Irene, stepfather

2-30  C. W. Hamilton and three grandchildren; now, therefore, be it

2-31      Resolved by the Senate of the State of Nevada, the

2-32  Assembly Concurring, That the members of the 72nd Session of

2-33  the Nevada Legislature extend their sincere condolences to the

2-34  family and friends of Marvin Carr; and be it further

2-35      Resolved, That Marvin Carr will be remembered for his many

2-36  contributions to Nevada fire services and for his dedication and

2-37  commitment to making Nevada a safer place to live; and be it

2-38  further

2-39      Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate prepare and

2-40  transmit a copy of this resolution to Marvin Carr’s beloved wife

2-41  Nancy.
