Senate Concurrent RESOLUTION—Directing the Legislative Commission to conduct a preliminary feasibility study of long-range mass transit within the State of Nevada and to large urban areas in neighboring states.
1-1 Whereas, With the rapidly increasing population of our state,
1-2 alternative methods of transportation must be considered to deal
1-3 effectively with the problems that arise from such an increase; and
1-4 Whereas, Because of the recent changes in the economic
1-5 climate of our country and our state, and the security concerns of
1-6 travelers, it would be beneficial to expand the methods of
2-1 transportation to bring tourists and business people to the State of
2-2 Nevada; and
2-3 Whereas, Our state is unique in that one must sometimes travel
2-4 long distances between communities, and alternate transportation
2-5 suitable to that environment would allow those distances to be
2-6 traversed in a very short period; now, therefore, be it
2-7 Resolved by the Senate of the State of Nevada, the
2-8 Assembly Concurring, That the Legislative Commission is
2-9 hereby directed to appoint a committee to conduct a preliminary
2-10 feasibility study of the long-range mass transit needs of the State of
2-11 Nevada and its communities, including, without limitation:
2-12 1. Buses and other motor vehicles that travel on the streets and
2-13 highways of this state;
2-14 2. Light rail service between urban, suburban and rural
2-15 communities;
2-16 3. Magnetic levitation trains and other forms of rapid mass
2-17 transit, both within this state and extending to large urban areas in
2-18 neighboring states;
2-19 4. Commuter trains;
2-20 5. Monorail systems; and
2-21 6. Other forms of mass transit; and be it further
2-22 Resolved, That the study must include, without limitation, an
2-23 evaluation of:
2-24 1. Alternative future transportation systems;
2-25 2. Factors such as public safety, environmental protection and
2-26 efficiency;
2-27 3. Economic concerns; and
2-28 4. Infrastructure needs; and be it further
2-29 Resolved, That the Legislative Commission shall submit a
2-30 report of the results of the preliminary feasibility study and any
2-31 recommendations for legislation to the 73rd Session of the Nevada
2-32 Legislature.
