Senate Concurrent RESOLUTION—Congratulating the Mineral County High School girls’ basketball team for winning the 2002 and 2003 state championships.
1-1 Whereas, The victory at the Lawlor Events Center on
1-2 February 28, 2003, seemed familiar as the Lady Serpents of Mineral
1-3 County High School won the AA state basketball championship for
1-4 the fourth consecutive year, pushing their unprecedented total to
1-5 nine championship titles in the past 10 years; and
1-6 Whereas, The team members for this year’s championship
1-7 season, Sandhya Bhakta, Shasta Brown, Jamie Convis, Tana Gurulé,
1-8 Jami Harris, Lindsay Hurley, Delicia Jernigan, Denise Koscinski,
2-1 Jacquere Lipscomb, Sidney Orndorff and Jessica Vinson, are also
2-2 academic state champions with a team grade point average of 3.85;
2-3 and
2-4 Whereas, The Lady Serpents championship team of 2002,
2-5 consisting of Sandhya Bhakta, Ciera Cammarata, Jamie Convis,
2-6 Crystal Gilbert, Tana Gurulé, Amanda Holland, Delicia Jernigan,
2-7 Denise Koscinski and Sidney Orndorff, also had the distinction of
2-8 remaining undefeated in their season of play which included wins
2-9 against larger AAA and AAAA schools; and
2-10 Whereas, The Mineral County High School girls’ basketball
2-11 team was led to victory both seasons by Head Coach David
2-12 Gelmstedt and Assistant Coaches Liane Filkowski and George
2-13 Winters, with managers Mollie Bryant and Amanda Jackson for the
2-14 2002-2003 season and manager Jennica Trujillo for the 2001-2002
2-15 season; and
2-16 Whereas, Over the past four seasons of play, the Lady Serpents
2-17 have won 93 percent of their games with a record of 115 wins and
2-18 only 9 losses, and their consistent excellence has earned the respect
2-19 and admiration of fans and players from teams throughout the State;
2-20 and
2-21 Whereas, The decade of dominance in girls’ basketball in the
2-22 State can be attributed to the hard work and dedication of the
2-23 members of each succeeding team, and their determination to be
2-24 the best continues to make them the pride of Mineral County; now,
2-26 Resolved by the Senate of the State of Nevada, the
2-27 Assembly Concurring, That the members of the 72nd Session of
2-28 the Nevada Legislature do hereby extend their congratulations to the
2-29 Mineral County High School girls’ basketball team for winning the
2-30 AA state championship in both 2002 and 2003; and be it further
2-31 Resolved, That the academic and athletic achievements of the
2-32 Lady Serpents will be a role model for all young girls who strive to
2-33 be their best; and be it further
2-34 Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate prepare and
2-35 transmit a copy of this resolution to Clyde Baker, Principal of
2-36 Mineral County High School, and to Head Coach David Gelmstedt.
